Our Mission Statement begins by saying, “The mission of Trinity-by-the-Cove is to spread the Good News of the Gospel...” Episcopalians are not known for our Evangelism. In fact, we dread the “e-word.” Our reticence is not unreasonable. One of the outcomes of the Sixteenth Century Reformation in Europe was that Catholic Christendom was shattered into a number of Confessional Churches. Each Sunday, we gather for a celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist includes the Liturgy of the Word and the Holy Communion. The word liturgy means "the work of the people," as in "public works." In the Church, liturgy means the order of service that we use for worship, including words, and gestures, and ceremonies.
